Windows Operating Systems - Which One?    Which Windows Operating System

Picking The Right Operating System

We have tested all our computers with the current crop of operating systems including XP and Vista. A couple of major areas that the Vista operating system excels at is the offline folder syncronisation and mobile device integration. They are light years ahead of XP Professional in functionality and ease of use.

The best advice we can give is to invest in a Vista operating system and have it running in tandem with an XP machine.

Get the employee who uses it to document all problems that occur. If there is a major roadblock, they document it and then use the alternate XP professional workstation.

To find out if you software is compatible with Vista, go to the application readiness tool and for hardware try the hardware compatibility list.

Windows Support For Older Operating Systems

Windows 95, 98, ME, and NT 4.0 should all be relegated to the museum. If you have any of these operating systems in your business, you should think seriously about donating them to needy urban achievers or other worthy causes.

"It does what I want it to" I hear you say! That's what the man in the horse and cart used to say when the car was invented.

Use either Windows XP Pro or Vista business for a month and then go back to windows 95, then make a decision.

Windows Support For The Home Versions

XP Home, XP media centre, and Vista Home/Basic should be used at home not at the office and even at home its recommended the business versions be used for business users.

There are a number of reasons for this, the most important exclusion is not being able to login to your works domain and not being able to use remote desktop. Its also generally a right royal pain for your support people to try and integrate or work around its limitations and will ultimately cost you more than the $100 you saved on the price of the PC.
